'Future Internet' - European Public Private Partnership Competition
On 20th July, the EU announced its intention to invest 90 million euros in research related to the future of the internet. Termed the 'Future Internet Public Private Partnership' (FI PPP) this programme adopts a three-phased approach with four tightly related objectives and two dedicated Calls with a third planned for 2013.
The competition calls are:
. Call 1: 20 July - 2 December 2010 - budget 90 million euros
. Call 2: 18 May - 29 October 2012 - budget 80 million euros
. Call 3: (planned later 2013) - budget 130 million euros.
EU funding for the FI PPP will go to strategic projects that link industry sectors across Europe to leverage advanced internet infrastructure and build innovative services. Call 1 published on 20th July for research in 2011 seeks innovative projects integrating different industries to build on previous achievements and use the strengths of the public sector. The EU is looking to support "a few innovation flagship projects".
The Digital Communications KTN in the UK has set up a Future Internet group on the TSB _Connect site (as mentioned above). The top level portal is found at https://ktn.innovateuk.org/web/the-future-internet. and a dedicated collaboration sub group at https://ktn.innovateuk.org/web/future-internet-eu-collaboration. Joining the top level group will also give you access to the sub group. The groups will connect you with people and organisations that are also interested in collaborating and developing the Future Internet.
As part of its collaborative work in this area, the Digital Communications KTN is offering a service related to the FI PPP Call, where organisations are invited to email a short one of two page synopsis to the KTN's Collaboration Domain Expert, Eddie Townsend eddie.townsend@dcktn.org.uk for comment and advice. Where you specifically request, he can also post your synopsis on the FI Collaboration group site so that other organisations may contact you, but this must come as a specific request.
